Fat Quarter Hoarders Unite!

I am a self-proclaimed “Fat Quarter Hoarder”! When I enter a fabric store I head straight to the fat quarter section. I specifically look for unusual patterns, or color combinations. Most of the time I find just one fat quarter that appeals to me. I grab it and put it in my cart before anyone else finds it. What am I going to make with it? I haven’t a clue, but it is unusual, one of a kind……and I must HAVE IT! What this means in real life is that the items I make are usually one of a kind. Once I use the cherished fat quarter, I cannot find another like it.

Wait! What!? What is a fat quarter? A fat quarter is a piece of fabric that is cut between 18″x22″ or 20″x22″. Sewists who do small projects, or who quilt, don’t want or need to buy a whole yard of certain colors or patterns of fabric. So a fat quarter is 1/4 yard and saves money and produces less scraps.

So, my collection of fat quarters fill three bins in my sewing room. I organize them by color, or theme. Then, when I look through them to match a fabric in one of my sewing projects, I tear through the bins, and they totally get unorganized…..because I am matching like colors, then matching contrasting colors, then mixing them with the themed patterns. It becomes a total mess. I want to get started on my project, and tell myself that I will put the fat quarters back in order….later. Well, the last “later” I told myself was two weeks ago, and three projects ago.

My plan is to organize it tomorrow morning. Right…..no, really…..sigh.

Every Day a New Challenge

Good Afternoon, and Happy Groundhog Day! According to all the news coverage, it looks like we will be having another six weeks of winter. More time to stay indoors and sew.

I am currently trying to balance my time between building the website, taking photos of items, sewing and filling orders. And also keeping up with my shows that I seem to be currently addicted to. Don’t get me started on the whole Star Wars, Mandalorian and Boba Fett series. Personally, I am enjoying each episode, and get much entertainment reading the comments on Facebook in the fan groups….such dissention! Just let me grab some popcorn and sit back to read! I am also watching The Gilded Age, which one of my daughters refers to as “Snoots and Hats”. Honestly, she comes up with the best descriptions and cracks me up. It has inspired me to do some historical research to see what was happening at the time, and to see how close to the historical truth they adhere to. Never to old to learn something new!

Enough of this “chit chat”, I need to get back to work.

Thank you for visiting my site! Toodles!

Microwave Cozy

I uploaded some photos of microwave bowl cozies today. These were specifically Mandalorian/Star Wars/Mickey Mouse related. I have so many more patterns: flowers/batik/colors/themes that I have made, and will upload them as I have time.

I run amuck through fabric stores and buy fat quarters that appeal to my whimsy, and have quite a collection. With that in mind, once the fabric has been made into an item, I can no longer find it. So, if you see something you like, get it while you have the chance. Once it is gone, it is gone.

What is a fat quarter? It is a piece of fabric that can range from 18″ x 22″. It allows quilters to purchase smaller pieces of fabric when looking for a particular color for their quilt. In the meantime, I have become a fat quarter hoarder. More on that vice in a future blog!

Please feel free to contact me regarding prices and availability. I need to get off this computer and back to my sewing machine to do the thing I love to do most: Create and Sew!!
